As abo said - you can beat a cyclist to a pulp and get half that sentence.

And as others have said (but you have chosen to ignore, along with other
inconvenient truths), if lunatic car-haters, law-breaking cyclists and
"compo cam" provocateurs weren't giving all cyclists such a bad name
then maybe the perceived "unfairness" that the police and judicial
system show towards cyclists would no longer happen.

It's always been like that - offences against property are treated more
seriously than offences against people, for reasons which would require a
Marxist rant to explain. Hung for stealing aloaf of bread, oppressed
masses, etc.

Interesting theory but I'm not convinced...do you have any evidence?
It's quite difficult to compare the severity of property offences
against that of offences against the the person. What is certain is
that the gravest offences (murder etc) are against the person.

Although you may have a point...maybe that's part of the reason why
white collar fraud in the workplace seems to attract much softer
penalties than, say, burglary, when you consider the value of what is
stolen.

I certainly think that some of the sentences handed down for random
violence against strangers are derisory, but I think that has more to do
with the pathetic state of "justice" in this country than anything else.
Still, never mind, as long as drivers are getting hugely
disproportionate fines for "speeding" and stopping for 10 seconds on
double yellow lines, we can all sleep at night. Just the other day I
became the victim of a driver who parked overhanging a residents'-only
bay by 10cm on a half-empty road for 5 minutes...it's not right.
Monsters like that traumatise people and it's right that they're dealt
with harshly.
