Travelling east on a bus in the City today.
A taxi travelling in front of the bus was hailed and stopped at the kerb to pick up the would-be passenger. Two cyclists following the bus (which stayed out on the outside of the eastbound lane but had to stop to give way to oncoming traffic) simply undertook the bus and then veered left onto the footway and passed just behind the taxi-passenger as he got into the cab. I wouldn't have easily believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. |

I had the rest of my bus journey to do, then a wait for a train, then a train journey, then a walk to where my car was parked, then a drive home. Central London, eh? |

"Many people barely recognise the bicycle as a legitimate mode of transport; it is either a toy for children or a vehicle fit only for the poor and/or strange," Dave Horton, of Lancaster University, wrote in an interim assessment of the Understanding Walking and Cycling study. "For them, cycling is a bit embarrassing, they fail to see its purpose, and have no interest in integrating it into their lives, certainly on a regular basis." |
