Shimano derailleurs
So the derailleur on my older Kona roadbike has become horribly
disfigured from abuse and neglect. It's a Shimano 105 - I'm curious, can just replace the derailleur without replacing the shifter? |

It's a Shimano 105 - I'm curious, can just replace the derailleur without replacing the shifter? for various values of 'older', likely yes. If you reply with the Shimano product number on the back of the changer, we could be more definitive. For example, replacing an RD-A105 with an RD-5700 you'd need a longer low gear limit screw. -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |

It appears to be an RD-5501. I didn't realize that part was called the changer. -Ryan |

Sure, any current Shimano model. You can call it anything you like but the word 'derailleur' elicits digression into orthography so I mostly gave it up. -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |

(I know what the French is - but how do YOU say it when speaking English?) DR |
