The article had the following in it:

"If you recognize this man or see someone wearing similar clothing in your area, please call 911 or report anonymously on your phone"

And I was "What the F---" Every A hole in Chicago will be calling the cops on everyone riding a bike near Chicago. But then I watched the video and saw a rider wearing all black clothes but not the standard all black bicycle clothes. Lycra shorts and jersey. So I thought maybe normal looking cyclists might not have the cops called on them.

About 10 years ago there was a poster on this forum who bought a bike for commuting to work. The bike was stolen. The thief told the police the owner gave it to him, and the police walked away. The owner went with some friends and took his bike back. When the cops take that attitude, one wonders how long before no one will cooperate with them.

Mind you, just down the road from Jay, in Eugene, OR, the cops tell the citizens they can't be bothered with property crimes because the citizens don't give them enough money... That sounds rather like the tulumbadschi (a sort of eastern mafia centred on the fire service) in Turkey who would start fires so that they could be called and demand a bribe before they put out the fire.

I shoulda mentioned that he lived in Chicago.

Mind you, just down the road from Jay, in Eugene, OR, the cops tell the citizens they can't be bothered with property crimes because the citizens don't give them enough money... Yup, you missed out on the facts again, Jay, though I dunno about alt-right.. My information is from a cyclist who lives in Eugene and who says you can't take your eyes off your bike for a moment or the drug addicts will steal it and sell it for scrap metal -- I note the cops in their empty promise (according to my source) to which your link refers also mention scrap metal sales. But my chum is far too correct to belong to the fringes of any political movement (probably including the current Democrat Party's tail wagging a dead dog).

Eugene is a hell hole. https://www.lohrrealestate.com/wp-co...tte-eugene.png

My friend sent me a whole DVD full of beautiful photos of Eugene and the Willa-something valley, where the evil lurks under the beauty. But my doctor, a chum who rode with me until he died, was absolutely convinced that where we live, which I routinely describe as a low-crime area because I can leave my bike unattended and have never lost anything, is a hellhole of drug addiction which I pooh-poohed as a couple of kids smoking marijuana, which they grew in a pot on the windowsill of the classroom in which agriculture is taught...

Honestly, though, the federal court house is a ridiculous, bloated shrine to Wayne Morse. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ner_cro p.JPG

The outside of the building isn't quite as bad as some modern architecture, but that architect can't even follow the script: vide, as only one but gross instance, the rabbit ears on roof: what possible purpose could they serve? He's a traitor to the Bauhaus! Check out this piece of Brutalist Crap, supposedly a library (see any books?):

The interior is better on the eye, though I suspect the benches will be dangerous to the coccyx of a cyclist, and even of humans. I prefer my interiors plush:

I spent a lot of bum time in those seats when in my yoof I was the arts editor of Nation Review. And, it just occurred to me, on seeing photographs on the net of the exterior of the building, that one of my novels is set in it*:

*Mmm, at least remembering, if belatedly, that I wrote the book is better than the time someone mentioned the plot of a book on a forum and I said, "Who wrote it? Sounds like a plot I could well with." ...and it turned out I wrote it. The Magnequest Scum underachievers abused me mercilessly for that -- which I remembered and weighed heavily in the scales when a few years later I had made all the profit I could off their gauche behaviour and decided to put them down for good.

The opinionated brazier of touring bikes? I got some of my early views on touring bikes from him, and probably still hold some of those, though it would be difficult to distinguish them from what I learned from others and deduced for myself over the last three decades. At least his ideas hung together comprehensively, which cannot be said for the majority of "braziers", who're jumped-up welders.

Nothing against jumped up welders, of course, as long as they hop off the pavement and touch their forelock when I approach

More like jumped-down welders. Welders laugh at brazers. I loved Bruce Gordon's early work -- not so much the later stuff. Bruce apparently left Eugene because he got tired of the cold and rain, which is understandable. Petaluma is a weather-perfect place and just a nice place to live if you stay out of the north Bay traffic. And it has lots of nice riding.

Modern architecture makes me sad.

A couple years ago, my wife and I visited the 1900-era county
courthouse, in part because its 8' tall majestic statues (representing
law, justice and strength IIRC) had been restored and were on display
before being lifted back to the rooftop.

The interior was as beautiful as I remembered, with lots of elegant
marble, murals and paintings of historic scenes, stained glass windows,
etc. Just gorgeous.

As we walked the few blocks back to our parking place, we passed the new
(circa 2000?) federal courthouse. We decided to stop in for comparison.
But there was no comparison. Its internal style matched its external
style; it was about as beautiful as a refrigerator, inside and out.
There was absolutely nothing to see.

We did, however, enjoy a long and pleasant conversation with a worker
there who was very interested in our bike tours and my utility riding.

Petaluma is also a pretty place, if I remember it correctly.
