It's funny to see so many dorks argue politics in a freaking BIKE RACING
newsgroup.

Now wait just one minute ... OK, I'm back. We did this thread last
month, I just checked. My sense of deja vu grows even stronger...

Nah. Bush would just touch it and it would break. Sort of like he did
with the US economy or the balanced budget that we used to have.

Do you mean the "BROKEN" economy that grew last quarter at 3.4%? The same
economy that grew in your hero Bill Clinton's first quarter of his second
term - which everyone raved about - at 3.3%?

It's always interesting to note the GREAT Bill Clinton economy and the bad
George Bush economy. Of course Clinton had a lot more hidden money coming
into the US economy from the Red Chinese military intelligence. The problem
was that it was going into the White House first in paper bags carried by Al
Gore.

But Halliburton has a multi-billion dollar gub-mint contract to try
anyway.

Hmm, they also had the same sort of contracts with Clinton's administration
in Bosnia.

There are basically three companies in the world that can do jobs of that
natu Halliburton - a services company, Bectel - an engineering company
and Schlumberger - a French company.

Bectel was awarded a non-bid contract as well.

Perhaps you'd have been hapier with Schlumberger bidding?

It doesn't count when it's true. Or maybe you're too young to remember 14%
inflation, jobs falling like ten pins and Carter sitting in the White House
and twiddling his thumbs while Iran was holding American hostages and
laughing in our faces.

Maybe you ought to go back to Greg's posting and read it a couple of times
and then look in the mirror.

Well OK. If you believe the economy has been robust during the Bush
administration, that's alright with me. I wont try to dissuade you.
For my part, I wont try to argue that Bush is entirely responsible for
the economy regardless of whether you think he deserves blame or credit.

Fair enough?

Schlumberger hasn't been a French company since 1940, and even prior to that
most of their business was conducted in the US.

But hey, if being started by Frenchmen makes a company French, then you
better stop buying Champion spark plugs, and AC Delco parts, since both
companies were started by French cyclist Albert Champion.

Bectel was awarded a non-bid contract as well.

Perhaps you'd have been hapier with Schlumberger bidding?

I usually don't see your posts, but noticed the above in a response to
yours.

It's "Bechtel."

To quote the article in
http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature...index_np1.html
(a must read)

"[Bush] doesn't appear to
reflect on his actions and seems unable to concede even the slightest
mistake. Nor is he willing to hold anyone else responsible for anything. It
is a damning combination. John Kerry may flip-flop, but at least he realizes
that circumstances change and sometimes require changed policies. He doesn't
cowardly flee at the first mention of accountability."

On top of everything else, turns out that Kerry is a Ronald Reagan
impersonator. Thanks for pointing this out!

Did you have a point? That politicians sometimes say ludicrous stuff for
political reasons, or don't even remember all of what they've said? So what? I
would not bother to take the time to verify your claim.

I'm more concerned with the foundations of their ideology (since a play-by-play
scorecard is impractical). On that score, I cannot vote for socialist John
Kerry. To do so would be anti-thetical to the very foundations of our country,
which is all about individualism. We've strayed.

Yeah, now we have socialism for the upper classes (and of course the Post
Office thing).

Kerry is more antithetical to the very foundations of our country than Bush?
