Default 1986 tour, banned device.

I am looking for info regarding a UCI banned bicycle saddle, or device used
in the 1986 prologe or time trial. a photo would be great or any other info.

I remember it. Thierry Marie used a modified saddle with a back
vertical edge that rose up, supposedly allowing him to press his gluts
up against it and transfer more power to the pedals. Unfortunately,
they blended it into the bike in such a way that it was hard to see it
as anything other than a rear fairing designed keep the airstream
smooth as it flowed off his back. Renault and Systeme U did some very
cool stuff with their TT bikes.

That was a San Marco, based on the original Concor, that had what amounted
to a seat-back, that provided a platform for your butt to push against.
Can't recall who rode it - or tried to ...

Was it Système U's saddle with back support?

Thierry Marie won the prologue using a fairing attached to the back
of his saddle. He claimed to use it to push off of as he pedaled.

It was banned after the prologue once it was clear that was a load
of hooey.

Sorry, no pictures.

a device with a similar goal was nicknamed "the bondage belt", essentially a
rope around the stem connected to a strap around the person's butt, enabling
them to push against the strap.

It was '89 or '90. Not '86. And Thierry Marie as said prior.

Those (the Systeme U and the "bondage belt") were two different type of
devices.
