Man who knocked cyclist off bike fined by magistrates - good result
QUOTE:
A MAN has admitted crashing into a cyclist and knocking him off his bike in a poor attempt to get around. Boston Goddard pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Magistrates heard the 19-year-old was driving a Citroen Saxo on the B4204 in Stoulton on May 7, when he crashed into a cyclist during an attempt to pass them. The court heard the cyclist came off the bike and he suffered serious injuries, which resulted in the man being in hospital for nine days Goddard, of Priest Lane, Pershore, was fined £80 with six penalty points added to his licence. He was also ordered to pay costs of £110 and a victim surcharge of £34. The total, £224, is to be paid at a rate of £20 a month with first payment in November. Two other drivers evade justice, with their firms receiving paltry fines that they can write off against tax. And we wonder why the country racks up 2,000 deaths and 200,000 injuries a year on the roads. factcheckWR 1 hr ago User ID: 723801 0 Absolutely disgusting. A driver nearly kills a cyclist. Is only fined £244 and doesn't lose his licence. It doesn't help when prominent councillors who should know better go out of their way to inflame the unreal and uncalled for 'tribal' antagonism between drivers, cyclists and even pedestrians when in reality we should all be calling for every user of our Highways to act more responsibly and especially those who are more vulnerable. |
