I don't mind them , call it the very public exposure of the kind of
mindset among the pro-speeding lobby. nuxxy and judith and the others
serve as a warning that the kind of people who demand the right to
drive as fast as they like are precisely the least suitable people to
whom this benefit ought be applied. Borderline sociopaths.

its the only chance you get-you're banned everywhere else

I'm not banned from anywhere except cycle chat for some swearies.
getting banned from safespeeding or pistonheads for exposing Claire
Armstrong's lies and the fact her decomposing husband insisted
donations be made to his mad old campaign group IN HIS NAME is a
public service. Very proud of it. Safespeed supporters inevitably
retreat to their nodding dog forum populated by weirdoes pretending to
be police men. Confronted with a sensible counter argument, they ban
the poster and delete the posts!

Guffaw.

It puzzles me as to why there are so many pro motoring lobbyists on a

Why is it in your oponion that a cyclist can not be pro-motoring.
Is it that you believe that a cyclist can not be a motorist?
If that is so would you give us the reasons for your conclusions?

There is no reason at all why cyclists should not also be drivers. I would
guess that a sizeable majority of people who cycle in the UK for commuting
or for recreation also use a car so they would naturally be both pro-cycling
and pro-motoring. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Are they?

That way lies madness. In a few years you'll be the one sitting on a
park bench with your can of Strong Brew howling at passers-by.

Although I travel mostly by car or train I use a bicycle most Sunday
afternoons and you would probably laugh if you saw my bike. I'm the
kind of cyclist who has a bell and reflectors fitted and obeys traffic
signals and I don't wear Lycra. I suppose that doesn't make me a real
cyclist.

Cyclists come in lots of guises. Hairy mountain bikers, lycra clad
roadies, shoppers with baskets, commuters with fold up bikes and so on.

Can I qualify as one then? Please!

You already are. At least *you* are legal during the dark unlike me as I
have no reflectors.

I am a motorist myself. I am puzzled though as to why the two most prolific
posters on here are not cyclists themselves and just post anti-cycling
pro-motoring threads. Why do they not stay away from here and subscribe to
motoring newsgroups instead.

Yes it is really odd obsessive behaviour. By the way I have just
discovered the Cycle Chat forum (mentioned in earlier posts). It looks
pretty good and free of Safe Speed madness etc. *Thousands* of posts
and nearly all to do with cycling and what cyclists experience. No
excessive helmet pushing, although not anti-helmet either. I may
switch. And good advice on primary position and related road
positioning matters. And lots of technical stuff etc etc

Rudi

PS I will comment properly soon on the replies to my post about
providing a filtered version of urc. Just been too busy - in essence I
think I'll probably make it an undergraduate final year project taking
on some of the comments made here. It would be a good project for a
student whether or not it gets to be used here.
However I was surprised how relatively few replies there were apart
from the obvious ones from Judith, Thaksin, Nuxx Bar, etc. I am
really really surprised at how active Cycle Chat is compared to urc
though ...

Does anyone know what the percentage of drivers are, who are also cyclists?
And the percentage of adult cyclists who also drive?

I would suspect that percentage wise, there are far more cyclists who are
also drivers than there are drivers who are cyclists.

A quick assessment of my own circle of friends and acquaintances tells me
that virtually all of them drive, about 20% drive *and* cycle (at varying
proportions), but I do not know anyone who only cycles but never drives.
Therefore from the people I know, cyclists *are* drivers too.
