To good an opportunity to waste - I'm outta here :-) Some of us have to be up at 0500 to ride to work. Definitely the best part of the day in June, I went on a tour of the city centre without seeing a single car this morning :-) -- Simon M. |

I did 72.8 miles, over the Pennines via Stanedge then down to Stalybridge up Longendale and over the easier side of Holme Moss to Holme then home. Added to the 27.3 miles yesterday evening around Mirfield and the SVG thats my ton for the weekend. |

Stanedge then down to Stalybridge up Longendale and over the easier side of Holme Moss to Holme then home. Added to the 27.3 miles yesterday evening around Mirfield and the SVG thats my ton for the weekend. I had the perfect route sorted to accomplish my first century - Leeds - Wetherby - York - Malton - Pickering - Sutton Bank - Thirsk - Northallerton - Richmond - Hurworth I was up for it and everything was going amazingly well - the first 45 miles done at an average speed of 20 mph (I amazed myself at this!) then two spokes gave up the ghost just after I passed through Malton. I considered nursing the bike through the remainder of the ride and chose to complete the journey by train as I didn't fancy the prospect of the wheel folding on me - bummer :-( Despite the unsatisfactory ending, I did get a buzz out of the pace that I was able to sustain for an extended period of time. It would have dropped off once I'd entered the North Yorkshire Moors butsustaining 20mph two and a quarter hours isn't bad for a 20 stone lard arse is it? |

you seem to specialise in doing bike rides on the train :-) I call it good contingency planning, especially if one's partner is unwilling to come to one's rescue in moments of crisis :-) Besides who says that bike rides have to be circular? :-) I do complete most rides with resorting to trains but I do have an small collection of tickets as souvenirs of 'failed' forays :-) I have nothing but praise for the various rail operators in County Durham, West and North Yorkshire who have conveyed my and my bikes around the regions. |
