Default lanterne rouge

We may have a contender for the most spectacular taking of the coveted lanterne
rouge in the history of the sport.

In a few short days David Zabriskie has thrown aside the golden fleece and is
now reaching for the fabled red lamp. Threatened by possible elimination he was
unable to linger long enough on the road to take it today. A similar
performance tomorrow and it will be his.

Whether he claims that prize or not, I hope to see him finish. He'll have as
much of a story to tell as anyone out there. To start the race in yellow and
finish in red, I don't know if it's unprecedented but it is special.

Ron

Rats, DZ has abandoned.

God bless him. He should make a full recovery and bring some more personality
back to the front of the peloton.

Assuming he's not scarred for life.

I now have a priceless rejoinder for someone telling me a bike-riding
story that begins, "There I was..." and ending with a trip to the hospital:

Hey, could be worse. At least you weren't wearing the yellow jersey!
