hill climb time trial - result
Came third out of eight. The hill wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to
be. One of those which has short sharp climbs interspersed with longer flatter sections, flat enough to get a decent bit of speed up. I found cycling from Horsham to the start was almost as tiring as I had the long drag up to Colgate and then another long drag to Handcross in a stiff headwind (made cycling back lovely though). At first I tried the alternate in and out of the saddle technique but every time I stood up my thighs would be burning and I found it much more efficient to stay seated for as much as possible and use the gears to keep within a comfortable cadence, only standing up for a quick burst of power on the steeper sections. The highlight of the climb for me was overtaking the rider in front of me. Time: 6:37, just three seconds away from second place. The winning time was 6:16. Adam |

I have had to bow out of ours on Tuesday evening after crashing on a 10 mile TT last week. I can hardly walk at the moment, let alone ride a hill climb. -- Simon Mason http://www.simonmason.karoo.net |
