Default Pearls Before Swine

In today's Pearls Before Swine comic strip, Rat knows that he's lazy
and wouldn't go to a gym if he joined. So he joined the
most-expensive gym in town. Since he is also selfish and greedy, he
wouldn't be able to bear knowing that he had given them all that money
and wasn't getting anything for it.

So his sins are battling for supremacy.

I sort of used to do that, but it was lazy and lazy duking it out.

We belonged to a Nautilus club in the local racquet club. I arranged
my training rides to pass by it because a session of weight training
is a good way to even out after repeating the same motions for hours
-- Nautilus isolates muscles, so from the viewpoint of any one muscle,
one is engaging in thirty seconds of maximum effort and half an hour
of total rest -- and a ten-mile bike ride is a good way to warm down
from a weight-training session.

I had one fifty-mile route that started out going south in the Hudson
Valley, went up into the hilltowns above the Eastern Cliffs of the
Helderbergs, and came down north of the Racquet Club.

And every time I approached the club, I reflected that I didn't feel
up to lifting weights. I definitely wasn't up to riding ten more
miles. So I went in to use the pay phone to call for a ride.

But I was too tired to make the call; I needed a long cold shower
first. When I came out of the shower, I had two choices for getting
dressed: my sweat-soaked cycling clothes, or the work-out outfit in
my locker. Well, as long as I'm dressed for it, I might as well go
upstairs and do my warm-up exercises; a little stretching would feel
really good.

Half an hour later I was evened out and my clothes had aired, so I put
them on and rode home.
