The opinion that he has expressed was that the Govt. needs ban all religion from of all facets of govt. and public life. Well, my interpretation of what John wrote didn't go that far, especially in terms of public life. This in my mind is enforced atheism. My take is that the govt. needs to be totally neutral to all religions. It's a tough question to deal with though as it's so emotional and complex. I do think that we are going to have to fight to keep the far right from making a power grab and forcing their agenda onto the country now. That's pretty much what they're doing already. With guys like Scalia on the Supreme Court, it will be much easier for them to do so. And speaking of Scalia, anyone who says there's a problem with "activist judges" being on the left hasn't been paying attention. Here's a link to a Newsday article: http://tinyurl.com/3txca The first graf: "U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anonin Scalia said Monday that a religion-neutral government does not fit with an America that reflects belief in God in everything from its money to its military." Being opposed to having others religious views foisted upon you differs from being 'opposed to people's freedom to practice their religion'. It does not matter whether these others are moslems trying to force women to cover their faces or christian fundamentalists (or catholics) trying to impose their views on for example abortion on everyone else. There we agree, but the Govt also has to stop attempting to strip religion from all forms of public life. Banning Halloween, banning discussion of religious holidays in schools etc...is really losing a chance to include and educate everyone about each other's beliefs. With things as polarized as they are today discussion and understanding are more critical than ever IMO. Bill C The problem is that there are rarely discussions on this in schools - it seems to be a very one-sided thing, with christianity being the only one being given any credence here. -- tanx, Howard "You ain't having fun until you're dialing 911" Atomic 7 remove YOUR SHOES to reply, ok? |

"Sierraman" wrote in message ... ps-BTW, I found an interesting link about Eisenhower warning the the world about the Military becoming a big business enterprise, which make me think of a global war machine run by the International elites of the world. Forget about police state. How about global police state? http://www.informationclearinghouse....rticle5407.htm Have you seen the film Rollerball with James Caan? It's exactly that kind of world that we.re headed toward. It's been so long, I would have to see it again. How about Brazil, Bladerunner, or Orsen Wells-1984. |
