Default Riding on Roads

Where else? Couldn't bear to read the thread and find out, though.

Today, I enjoyed spending hours on the road for no good reason.

Slightly disappointed that there were no mallows in the marshes along
Parks-Schramm, pleasantly surprised to find a shirt-pocket watch at
Walmart. Had to buy a charm bracelet to get it, but it was only $10
for the package. And it was set for the correct time.

Learned: how to find a potable-water faucet at the City-County
Athletic Complex, which removed all water fountains a few years ago.
Also learned: CCAC water tastes *horrible*. Luckily, I passed a
grocery store before I'd emptied my other bottle.

There is a lot of traffic on the Chinworth Bridge, considering that
it's a museum. One of the abutments is a pleasant place to sit and
eat canned chicken salad on home-baked whole-grain bread.

300N is gravel, and not the kind with firm wheel tracks -- rides like
a sparse layer of loose stone on pavement. I'd never before seen
washboard of such amplitude. I turned back before reaching the first
hill. Which meant I had to go through the washboard again.

200N goes through, but you have to make a right-angle turn to stay on
it -- and the sign at the intersection has been rotated forty-five
degrees.

Spotted a vegetable-stand sign, discovered that one of the suppliers
at the Farmer's Market lives on 200N. I bought a tomato. She saw me
in town later, and was impressed even though I didn't tell her about
my side trips.

350W has lots of very large trucks even though it ends at Old 30.
Also, today, a "huge garage sale" (really a flea market) at the
intersection. I resisted the temptation of an iron skillet for $2,
much better than what you can buy new for much, much more -- I
already have a pair about that size. Did buy a large handbag for my
knitting. Had I made it, I'd have put in a light-colored lining
instead of black, I'd have installed at least one more pocket on the
outside, and I'd have trimmed off the "vera bradley vera bradley" in
the border print, but for $2, it's quite serviceable.

Downtown, as usual, is under construction. Walked some getting
through.

Legs felt queer at nap time.

This is in Northern Indiana somewhere?

Sounds like you had a fun day.

Yes, between South Bend and Fort Wayne. Fairly flat area, by the
standards of someone who moved here from the Eastern Cliffs of the
Helderbergs.

I thought so. It's no worse than this side of the IL/IN line, in
terms of flatness.

Hi there.

Where I am in South-Central Ontario, Canada there are lots of rolling
hills and sometimes a bit of a lon flat stretch. The latter is on the
busier highways. However it is wonderful to ride many of the roads as
the terrain and scenery are so varied you don't really have a chance
to get bored. And the steeper hills let you work off any latent
agression by attacking them.

I can ride for hours after heading out of town in just about any
direction.

Cheers from Peter
