I've been using a set of ZuZu's for many years now. I've banged them

and
crashed them plenty of times and used them on several of my bikes

(they
started on my bmx and are now on my DH bike). Never had a single

problem
with them...

I had a set of similar old-style DMR V12 pedals (all churned out from

the
same factory, right?), and I did break them in the manner Rick

described.
Intensely annoying: they were 50 quid, only a couple of weeks old and

I
couldn't even get a set of replacement bodies. I replaced them with a

set
of cheaper, but similarly styled S&M pedals. Within a few weeks I'd

broken
them in the same place too.

Now, all the platform pedals I buy have to have a support section

between
the ends of the platforms - Primo currently gets my custom.

I have a set of Primos that were cheap ($35) and have taken a lot of
abuse. The only thing that bothers about them is the ones I bought
don't have the screw-in pins, but the push-ins. Not the adjustability
(for wear/damage of pins) other pedals have, but not *near* the price
either. Fair enough trade off.

I'm having trouble picturing this. Could you please put up a photo of
yourself in said platform shoes.

Modern photography had not yet been...developed. Still used the guys
holding up flash pans!

What I /really/ wish is that I'd kept the shoes for my 1972 Leisure Suit
halloween getup! I still wear it most years (fits like a dream, btw), but
don't have a decent pair of white dogs to complete the look.

I have enough trouble with borderline 13/14 feet; my deepest
condolences to you.

Can't say I've really had a problem with the pins. I think I've lost one
in about 5 years, and then I just pushed in a replacement. On the
downside, I did snap the axle on one of them, which fortunately, wasn't
from a long way up, and they're pretty weighty (I'll be getting the mag
versions next time). But as you say, for the money, I don't think they can
be beaten.

Was that a cymbal I heard in the distance?

It's not that bad today. When I was in high school and college it was really
bad...had to send to Boston to get shoes and they were generally kind of weird.

Nowadays, I find I can get almost any type of shoe in my size as long as I'm not
shopping for price.

There was a time, however, when I'd have mortgaged my house for size 12 feet.

You are one of the lucky ones.
