The only bad thing he's done is discontinued the original
hexagonal neoprene True-Grip. But he's right about other ****.
The important cycling innovations for regular riders aren't super
sexy but significant. Better tires, better bearing seals, vee and
dual pivot brakes for fifteen bucks that work great. Those things
are nifty. Frame material obsession is boring. Steel is plenty
fine and durable. Light enough.

I just installed a cheapo Tange Passage on my roadster with
loose stainless balls and Stay-Plex grease. That's trickle down
tech from two generations ago. Fifteen bucks and it'll last near
forever.

I think the the most important progress has been in brakes[1] and
lights. I could go with sealed bottom brackets, but once we lost
those bloody cotter pins things were pretty golden on that front.
Oh, and affordable anodised rims. Do you remember chromed steel
rims!? shudder Maybe paint finished as well. Modern surface coats
are damn good. Tyres as well, no big jumps but they keep getting
better.

The rest? Interesting, but none for me. E.g. How many outside BBs
did I trash/year before I gave up on the bloody things? I used to
change them with the chain annually if they lasted that long.

[1] Yes I'm going to include discs here. Let the flame wars
begin...

If you don't use an external BB, what kind of BB do you use? Did
you go back to square drive?

Shimano UN55 is the weapon of choice. I think I wore one out once :-)

If you are going that route, unbelievable value for money ime. Seals
are very good, longevity exceptional. For day-to-day all weather,
summer winter commuting, the Dogs Wobblers.

Just a (biased) opinion Frank. Nothing wrong with that BTW. You know they sell ultra light CF handlebars, stems and seatposts with his name on it.
Trek bought up the rights to the Bontrager line a long time ago and all of their line of accessories have Bontrager on them. So Keith and others now market their own ideas under other names.
What does that have to do with Tom Ritchey?

Maybe you should go back to foaming at the mouth about some lunatic conspiracy -- at least until the nurse delivers your morning medications. Also ask her for some Neosporin for your saddle sore.

Your correct Jay, it is not a conspiracy, it is now out in the open. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...il&FORM =VIRE
Wow. Is that the sort of stuff you listen to?

I see Tim Pool left school at age 14. I think I understand your affinity.

I see you still haven't told me your address. What do you have to worry about? It would appear that you're younger than I am and so you should be able to handle yourself against a 76 year old man.
But Tommy, what is the purpose of telling you Frank's address. After
all, if you can't afford groceries you'd never be able to afford a bus
ticket to visit Frank and return.

Or perhaps, like the 10th Bomb Wing, you'd just imagine the trip..

Then he has nothing to fear does he?
Well, he doesn't seem to be cringing in fear. In fact he seems to be
ignoring you.

Hard to believe, I admit, you being such an important and
knowledgeable person.

Tell us what you are John? Someone with do little money that
they have to rely on a military retirement back when that was a mere
pittance. Today they make more in one month than you do in a year.
Pretty funny that your story about where you were and what you did
seems to change every time you talk about it.
Gee, Tommy got it wrong again.

Franck isn't retired from the Military you friggin idiot, it was Me,
JOHN, who is.

And, military retirement or not I do well enough. We own two homes,
one in Bangkok and one in a country town about 200 km. N.E. of
Bangkok, and perhaps my crowning achievement, we don't complain about
the cost of groceries.

Please note the "own" we paid cash for the two houses.

Your education is so good that you don't even know how to spell Frank and I never said nor implied that Frank would ever be brave enough to even be drafted. He is the sort of chap that would have run to Canada.

No, I can spell FRANK, I just didn't spell check the post.

But what has you saying that "have to rely on a military retirement
back when that was a mere pittance." and me replying that I was "doing
well enough to own two houses" have to do with Frank going to Canada?

I really do think you should query your Psychologist about your
medicines as you seem to be hallucinating more and more these days.

So you have to spell check a post rather than simply read it? You seem highly concerned with my medications when you don't even know what they are.,

Now, stainless steel Westwood rims with drum brakes, that's the lateral choice found outside the smartest coffee houses in Rotterdam. But chrome as a braking surface? Give me a spoon brake if that's the other option.

Someone gave me **** the other day for pulling a BB-UN26 out of my tandem stoker BB to use on the daily driver. "It's horrible!" "It has a plastic cup!" "It's ugly!" And I was like, "sure, but have you tried an external BB?" Truth be told, if it was fifty bucks, I'd have put in a new Tange loose ball. It's got wiper seals and with fenders and Phil's? I'm sure it's good for a decade between rebuilds.

Velo makes a perfect copy of the hex True Grip (assuming
they were not the original vendor anyway, which they may
well have been)

Velo, the mostly OEM parts supplier? I've had a few of their saddles as take-offs that I honestly loved.

I see the open cell foam, but not the smoothies that looked like they came off a 60s British Twin. Along with Rustines, two of my favorites. I

Shimano UN55 is the weapon of choice. I think I wore one out once :-)

I sold a frame last year with a 122.5mm UN72 and regret it. I found it in a parts bucket at work when I was about to order a UN55 a few years ago, already with who knows how many miles. Put maybe 20K on it myself and it was still perfect when sold.

I'm actually looking forward to trying out the cheap and cheerful UN300 which is Shimano's universal square replacement. For under $20USD it's got nice looking shiny cups and reports say it's a bit smoother than the UN26 which I feel is maligned and a utilitarian beast that smooths out over time like MKS cup n' cone pedals.

No, you are correct, I have no knowledge of what medications you are
enjoying. But I do know that they aren't working.

What we can tell from your postings is that indeed you are the type that was a crew chief. Completely incapable of doing anything yourself because you're too stupid to do anything.

I'm sure that you are right. After all, I am retired, on my
investments, I own two houses, one in the capital city and one "summer
place" in the mountains, and paid cash for each house. I've been
married to the same woman for nearly 50 years. I buy my wife a new car
every few years (and pay cash).

And even more important, I don't whine and complain about the price of
groceries.

So if I am "incapable of doing anything myself" what does that say
about you?

Lets see, incapable of finishing high school, spent 4 years (he says)
in the Air Force and never got above an apprentice floor sweeper
level, never capable of buying a house (still lives in his mother's
house) unable to find steady employment - a long series of short time
jobs.

And even more significant, from his own statements, can hardly
afford, even with unemployment and social security, to pay for food.

No Tommy, if you are the epitome of American Manhood I think I'll just
stay over here and rusticate.

Or perhaps, like the 10th Bomb Wing, you'd just imagine the trip.

Am I supposed to be impressed that you own property in a country in which property is dead cheap? That your military retirement pay affords you the privilege of being able to buy a car?

You miss the point. Regardless of where I live, I have purchased, and
currently own, two homes while you have purchased none. I buy my wife
a new car every few years. I eat what I please and don't weep and cry
about how expensive groceries are.

Why, just the other day we went grocery shopping - we normally shop
once a week and of course my wife visits the "open market" every other
day for fresh veggies - and when we got to the cash register, and the
girl had rung up the purchase, my wife paid her and I didn't even
notice how much it was.

Which is indicative of just how much I worry about the cost of
groceries.

You, on the other hand, never bought a single house, and, from your
own posts, live in a slum where guns are going off and you are
frightened to walk the streets after dark... And you whine and cry
about the cost of groceries.

Now tell us again how well off you are.
