From today's sprint finish:

28 Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) Lampre - ISD

I know he's not the Ale-Jet of yore, able to win at will, but isn't
this the kind of stage where he should be mixing it up and rolling in
with the top 20?

Points standings:

21 Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) Lampre - ISD 47

He's one point ahead of Voeckler!

That's what happens to Dopa-Jet when you take the afterburner out of his
asthma inhaler.

Ummm, he's Italian - it was raining...? Duh. The Italians are so
used to nice weather that they don't like going out, or racing, in
inclement weather. Leave that to those silly British ******s. Why do
you think Andy won on the Gavia? It was _snowing_! Most of the
Italian riders were already in cafes having shots of espresso,
watching the Giro on TV and laughing at the stupid American climbing
the Gavia in the snow.

Petacchi is a fair weather flyer. Cavendish showed today he's a
mudder.

I remember Petacchi sliding for several metres when falling in a crash
in heavy rain at the front of a sprint in the giro a few years back.

Petacchi is 37, Cavendish is 20 something. Recovery is not always possible.
