Doesn't it seem strange though that individuals are actually allowed
to cause such harm to others with their polluting motor vehicles and
why is there no legal redress to this?

A lot of those vehicles are there because of you.

All I know about you is that you ride a bicycle.
You probably regard bicycles as cheap and clean, yes?
But they're only "cheap" because they're made efficiently, and they're
only "clean" because the pollution arising from their manufacture and
use is not near to you (though nearer than you think).

A bicycle is made of metals and plastics, which requires metal-ore mining
(which requires mining machinery), refining (which requires an electricity
industry), oil drilling and the chemical industry (plastics), fabrication of the
parts, electroplating, paint, and so on.

So you've got mining and oil industry, energy industry (all forms), chemical
industry (lots of), manufacturing, and of course transport (all forms). * * * *
Those things all rely on education, construction, security and emergency
services, health services, and of course food. *

Now, you consider using your bicycle to be pollution-free, because you don't
burn petrol to move it, but you eat food, so we're back to oil drilling, and
tractor manufacture, and transport (all forms) and the chemical industry, and
we should also throw in the water and sewage industry, and yet more consruction,
which is all backed up by education and health and security and so on, and so
on.

Utter rubbish! People require those things in order to live not just
to use bicycles.

No. For most of the time humankind has existed, they've done so without
all those things... "and their lives were nasty, brutish and short."

http://airtext.infoshows how the pollution is distributed over London
this morning.

Yes, shame on you!

More shame on you because your car construction involves much more
pollution than a bicycle

So we know you're a whore, and we're just arguing about the price.

and your car pumps out pollution all the time while it is in use, unlike a bicycle.

So let's look at this alleged "pollution".

Combustion of hyrocarbons produces;

1. water vapour (up to 4% of the natural atmosphere is water vapour - it's
essential to life)

2. carbon dioxide (the food supply for the whole of life on this planet)

That's almost the whole it, and so far, it's exactly the same as your body
produces.

There are _trace_ quantities of other things; NOx (plant fertilizer), CO (short-
lived, reacts to form water and CO2), soot (black carbon - a soil conditioner),
ozone (O3 short-lived oxidizing agent). Did I miss anything?

Your body also produces other emmissions: CH4 (short-lived, reacts to
form water and CO2), CO (short-lived, reacts to form water and CO2), hydrogen
sulfides (forms acids),...

All those things are either useful and beneficial, or are quickly converted to
useful, beneficial things. What's the fuss about?

Such "warnings" are politically motivated, and intended to alarm.

"High" has no intrinsic meaning, and neither does "pollution."

Would it be correct to say that mean life expectancy has roughly
doubled since the invention of the motor car, and continues to increase?

Move away from London. Nasty place anyway.

Unfortunately the pollution is nation wide and there is no escape
from it.

Fine here in Kent. Clear as a bell.

Typically anecdotal. So the government should stop worrying people I
suppose, just because you think everything is OK?

Toxic ozone from cars is invisible. Also http://www.airtext.info/ shows
'High' pollution in N. Kent

You mean places like Lewisham, Catford and Greenwich. Aren't they in
London? It's a dirty ********. You're old enough to know that.

and the government has issued pollution
warnings for the whole of the country. Besides, you have no way of
escaping from your own noxious pollution.

Probably staying at home is only a tokenistic remedy but obviously
the less you breathe and don't exercise the less you will be
poisoned.

I suggest you stop breathing immediately.

Why should I and others be made to suffer just because people like you
want to drive filthy cars which contribute to illegally high emissions?
Why is there no legal redress against your harmful polluting?

You seem happy enough to have all your produce delivered by motor vehicles
and aircraft don't you Doug? This couldn't be your rank hypocrisy showing
up yet again, could it?

Doug's food just appears on the shelf in Tesco's, like magic.

Airtext.info also predicts "moderate" pollution around Catford, so shut
your moaning.

But there is other sorts of polution that come from the Catford area.

Funny how the defra website with today's stats on has the pollution
at LOW at 95 sites and MODERATE at 27 sites. High isn't even on the
map.

That's real stats, taken from 3pm today.

Looks like your link is a load of ****e, as per usual Doug.

that happened last time too.

No, it wouldn't.
And even if it was, correlation is not causation.

I trust that you will remember that last sentence in your future posts.

I thought you might have the brains to find it. It is, after all, DEFRA's
air pollution site - with measurements taken every few hours and published
soon after. It even explains in great detail what each element is, and has
records going back years.

Go on, I dare you. Try using google to find DEFRA's air pollution site UK..

Your inability to support your claim with a link duly noted and I see
that you are also unilaterally deleting text you cannot deal with.

How about this from the BBC?

"Newspaper review:

Er that's a review of newspapers Doug. It's irrelevant. I suppose they're
also talking about the Royal Wedding too.

I had you killfiled for ages, as you were becoming boring. You're still
boring, but at least I don't feel grubby taking the **** out of you like I
do with Oldfield.

The newspapers also mention the government air pollution warning, as
if you didn't know.

Doug.
