Default a quarter of motorists want cyclists to pay road tax

A study by Confused.com, has found that motorists have had enough of

cyclists pay road tax.

Are you proud that a quarter of your fellow drivers are too stupid to
know that *any* zero emission vehicle pays zero VED?

At present, but as revenues fall no doubt the tax will rise.

A further 14% want bicycles to have number plates displayed and nearly half
of respondents (44%) want cyclists to pass an equivalent version of the
driving test before they can ride on the road.

There's no such thing as 'road tax'.

Not just zero emission vehicles but many "low polluting" cars like
these pay no VED.

Two million motor vehicles are now VED exempt.

What about those of us who already pay road tax, in some cases for
more than one vehicle?

If you wanted an extra car, would that "argument" hold water?

"are keen to see cyclists pay road tax" I'm a cyclist and I pay road
tax a few times a year already ...

That's irrelevant in this context.

For example, I'd like anyone that believes 'market research' put out
by an insurance company is a useful contribution to human knowlege to
be subject to swingeing levels of dozy oaf tax. It doesn't matter
that currently no-one is subject to dozy oaf tax.

(Well, possibly people with speeding fines, but that's a different
discussion)

Who the heck is Confused.com and why is your link not specific to the
source, which appears to be invisible?

Some do.
Some bicyclists just want to be treated as legitimate travellers, the
same as other travellers.

I for one wouldn't mind paying a fare share towards the upkeep of the
highways and byways, provided that's what it went towards of course.

Clearly not a 'proper' bicyclist.

I am really glad that I am not a 'proper' bicyclist by your definition.

A lot of cyclists own a car as well as a bicycle, so already pay excise
duty - is road tax just for bicycles?

It's just more confirmation of TRL549.
