Many of them will have some cover and not realise it.

I just keep all of mine indoors and never leave them out of sight
except when at work.

You keep your bicycles indoors? *What a waste of a bicycle.

Four are kept indoors - the fifth, depending on the time of the year,
is used for commuting/leisure.

Won't the cyclist's fridge freezer insurance cover that?

What?

The general rule is, that if you are daft enough to feel the need to
insure the contents of your fridge freezer* from catastrophic breakdown,
you would probably have other add-ons to the policy like legal
liabilities covered too.

Its not that at all. When the subject of compulsory insurance for
cyclists comes up, it causes their arses to pucker.

The mere thought of having to put their hand in their pocket & pay for
something terrifies them. Sponging freeloaders to a man.

No. The thought of paying for something ridiculous terrifies them.

Not if the house is rented though, as it would be their landlords
responsibility.

Of course, it is rare for any building owned by a building society or
bank to be uninsured by the occupier, as the owner makes it a
condition of their occupancy.

So where did the one in three come from?

As someone else said, it seems unlikely that as many as one in three UK
dwellings has no building cover. Nut then, there's always the issue of social
housing. There's no real point in councils or housing associations paying for
building insurance, as they can probably cover the cost of repairs and
rebuilding in the case of such severe damage as to warrant an insurance claim.

They probably don't account for as many as 1 in 3 dwellings across the UK,
but taken together with owner-occupiers who don't bother with the insurance,
it's possible that about 1 in 3 is reached or approached.

Not that this is the issue in a cycling context. It would be contents
insurance which would allegedly cover liabilities for injuries, fatality or
property damage caused by a cyclist. And whatever the numbers involved in
lack of building insurance coverage, they will probably easily equate to 1 in
3 for lack of contents insurance because they will comprise a significant
proportion of rented accommodation and some owner-occupied property.

Indeed - they are often not very bright.

Or not the kind of sad losers like yourself that actually read 50 page legal documents.

What 50 page legal document which I have read?

Insurance cover.
