I'm probably crazy, but I'm going from a triple
to a double. My store just got FSA team carbon
cranks for good price. Does anyone know why they
are being discounted?

tnx

Which PCD? Compacts are selling like hot cakes, so I'd expect 130 PCD
cranks to be marked down

My coworker's carbon aluminum joint failed in his 2-piece carbon FSA
crankset. Not sure what model it was.

I'm not so willing to indict either a company's product, or the ISIS bottom
bracket in general, on the basis of a single observed failure. One could
just as easily claim that FSA & ISIS are both exceptional products because
I've had no problems whatsoever with what's on my own bike.

Having said that, I'll agree that the newer crank designs with the combined
oversized spindle/right-side crank and external bearings make a lot of
sense.

Of course, Sheldon didn't indict the Isis system, but merely this
particular type of FSA BB, for reasons that include the single observed
failure but more importantly the design flaw that caused it.

One step further and we'll be riding single-piece Ashtabula cranks.

It is? Sure doesn't look that way to me!

Since I've been invoked on this topic, I'll risk the netiquette
violation of a "me too" post:

I'm in complete agreement with Mike on this, and have no beef whatever
with the ISIS system, nor with FSA products in general.

Yes, this does make a lot of sense for most folks. The wide
interchangeability of bottom bracket parts among different brands and
models is a particularly nice feature, though, as an old-time bike
hacker, I kinda miss the ability to play games with non-standard
chainlines. For most people, however, that's a _good_ thing, 'cause it
makes errors less likely.
