Default Disk brakes

I bought a new bike with disk brakes on the front.. but they small disk was
not straight and I had to take it back.

I've been told by someone that these cause a lot of problems, and by another
person that they're ok.

I don't need any fancy brakes for riding around town.

Should I try to get the bike shop to give me a bike with normal brakes?

Thanks

I have disc brakes on a hybrid. They are good brakes. Don't worry about
them. They are better for stopping in wet weather. I have over 3200
miles on mine with no problems at all.

I bought a boxed bike with disks recently. The rotors were warped by a
mm. I adjusted them with a straight edge and a little encouragement
from the heel of my hand. No big deal.

I love them on my town bike as once set up, they're fantastic and
reliable, especially when it rains. Sure, rim brakes are fine too, but
sounds like you just need the rotor straightened--a five minute job.

Thanks for the tip.

Its not the most expensive bike, a Raleigh, middle cost, and one guy in the
shop said he had many people complaining about them.

But maybe he was wrong...

thanks

Complaining about the Raleigh? If it's one of their hybrids, it's a good
bike for what it was designed for. My c200 although heavy, has given me
no 'real' problems in 3200 miles.

Every once in a while my front will let out a tiny little squeal, but
not very often and not enough for me to worry about.

Funny, with me, it's the rear (and pretty often, and usually something
to worry about).

Ohhhh.... brakes! Never mind.

The guy the shop said that cheaper disks cause many problems, but the
expensive ones don't.

Oh well.

Thanks
