Scottish court orders dog owner to pay £400 compensation to cyclist
QUOTE:
According to defence agent Liam McAllister, Weir, who had pleaded guilty to having a dangerously out of control dog, had investigated getting a muzzle so there would be no similar incident in the future. He added that the dog had been rescued and had suffered abuse as a puppy, adding: “It’s thought there might have been an incident with a cyclist in the past.” Weir was told to pay the rider £400 in compensation by Sheriff Ian Wallace." https://road.cc/content/news/253819-...t-bitten-twice |

Like the oft touted stat about cyclists killing peds being 1% of all road deaths, which is an absolute crock of ****. In the last 7 years, cyclists were attributed fault only FOUR times for the deaths of others, that's the governments own stats in the big report on how we can bash the **** out of cyclists earlier this year. That little stat was hidden away right at the end in as small a font as possible, over the same period around 12,500 people were killed on our roads, cyclists at fault for deaths is 0.03% of all road deaths!" |

Some say that dogs are very good judges of (human) character. The only dog that ever really bit me was Sergent Clyde, an inbred wired haired fox terrier. We got him from the pound, we were his 3rd owners and he our 3rd dog. Clyde was the fiercest if not the smartest animal that ever lived. The Sergeant family woman got pregnant and knew Clyde would attack any humans showing any affection so before they had the baby they got rid of Clyde. Clyde's next owner did the same. After we acquired him I'd get up to 45 km/hr and Clyde would catch up and try to rip the front wheel off the bike. Sometimes he'd get his snout stuck into the spokes. Indoors all I had to say was "squirrel" and Clyde would rip through the screen door. The squirrel would wait until Clyde was almost on him and then jump aside at the last second sending Clyde clawing at the grass to change direction. It was hilarious. Once Clyde was found in the side yard breaking every bone in a possum's back. Together we'd chase down fire balloons launched from the back yard. The dog became the family mascot -- all id. It took 3 head on collisions with motor vehicles, each time reducing his top speed by 10 km/hr, before Clyde finally died. Dad buried him in the side yard with a marker: "Sergent Clyde, A Dog With the Heart of A Lion." OK, maybe a Jack Russel is fiercer. |
