Default Cycle Helmets Could Have saved Lives

Imagine on 6th June 1944 if the allied troops had been issued with cycle helmets.
They could have strolled up to the German gunners and said:-
'Look you guys, we are wearing cycle helmets so your bullets cannot harm us and we do not want to harm you so why don't you just go home.'

War over.
