I admit it ...
.... I used to dope when I raced. Yep ... I loaded up on caffeine and pseudoephedrine ... and I smeared cortisone cream on my chamois to help prevent saddle sores. Thankfully, I was such a lousy racer that I never had to **** in a jar, and thus never tested positive ... But it does give another datapoint to show that doping won't turn a donkey into a thoroughbred ... -- Steven L. Since I became ill as a side effect of meds I took for a back injury, I have taken some of the banned drugs alleged to do the most for endurance athletes (aside from meds that enhance RBC production or productivity). None of them did much at all except allow my body to recover slowly with a lot of hard work. There have has been no losses of any kind as a result of stopping any one them. OTOH, I was taking therapeutic doses and I suppose it is possible that much larger doses would be more effective, but I would never risk my health in order to find out. Training and eating right always works for me and anyone else I know that has the drive. Oh yeah, I even have taken Sudafed with coffee as you indicated and it sure helps the clogged sinus problems I get. I guess that helps go faster compared to not breathing correctly. Somehow I don't feel guilty taking that stuff to clear my nose. Again, it could be that some are taking huge doses. I have been told that pseudo-ephedrine is used to make various street stimulants that are very powerful. I think a lot of these banned drugs should merely be controlled as to quantity, like caffeine is. |
