The Crater Lake bike could cross over to the thread on riding the Trek Emonda on rail trails. http://rideoregonride.com/7-bikes-7-...ter-lake-bike/ Ti frame with discs and Di2 and Rolf wheels (also made in Oregon).

I would get the Gorge bike. http://www.travelcolumbiarivergorge....rgonaut%20Bike Plastic with room for 28mm tires and disc brakes. The perfect winter fast-ride bike.

Ka-cha, take that the rest of the world. We have a trillion custom builders. We don't however, have the best hills. My son in Salt Lake City informed me that he did both Big Cottonwood and Little Cotton Wood Canyons this week. Both of those are bigger climbs than Alpe d'Huez. It thrills me to see my son finally getting into riding.

The one I liked was the trapeze frame, despite its halfhearted bow to the crossframe principle, because I'm finding the low(ish) stepover of my Kranich very handly indeed. A few years ago when I built a couple of wooden bikes to establish the principles of a geribike, I discovered that a low stepover was the second most desirable feature, after what I called "the flatfoot tendency of those who come late to cycling", the keen desire to put both feet flat on the ground without leaving the saddle. The two desires fight each other, of course, as the obvious flatfoot solution is a crank-forward bike to lower the seat, which lengthens the wheelbase, which in turn makes taking the top tube away the cause of unacceptable floppiness.
