Does Shimano still make an 8 speed cassette?
Looking to replace the cassette on my 1997 Kona AA mountain bike.
After checking out Shimano's website all I see is 9-speed. So I'm guessing FleaBay is probably the only place I'll find a new 8-speed one? By the way, does anyone know the number of teeth that came on the '97 Kona AA stock cassettes? I would count myself, but my bike is downstairs and I don't want to get my hands dirty. :-). J. You don't need to get whatever was originally on the bike. You'll want a new chain so sizing it for a different cassette is no more work. You won't have to count teeth if you can find the numbers stamped on each cog. Finding them could be just as messy as counting. |

No. *There are plenty of new 8 speed cassettes on the market. And short of Campy, they're all $20-25 for popular sizes. Hurray, 8spd. |

I assumed that was a troll, "I would count myself, but my bike is downstairs". In bicycle service departments, eight is the new seven! Cheap and plentiful, many brands and models of replacement cassettes and chain. -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |

Actually it wasn't a troll. I just didn't want to get my hands dirty after
having a shower, :-). I ended up counting the number of teeth on the cassette, turns out it's an 11-28; some type of Shimano but I'm not sure which, as there is no model number stamped on it, nor do any of the cogs have the tooth count stamped on them. I might look into a Sram 8-speed model, as they seem to be reasonably priced. J. Spaceman AMuzi wrote: Jason Spaceman wrote: Looking to replace the cassette on my 1997 Kona AA mountain bike.
