Default Killfiles ... probably OT ..

I've never deployed a kf before, at least not intentionally .. but
thought I'd give it a try over the last couple of weeks or so. I only
put two people into it, technically not counting socks, but as I've
only applied my killfile (Bozo Bin in Xananews world) to this newsgroup
it's been an interesting exercise.

Mostly it's cut down the ****e immensely and made the newsgroup way
more readable. However what it can't do is stop others replying to the
bozos and thus me seeing [1] their replies too (well, duh!) which has
almost, but not quite, defeated the object, whilst at the same time
reinforced how good a bozo bin can be when applied correctly. (Learning
curve applying rules after bozoing so they work as I want them to, not
how the programmer wanted by default .. )

OTOH, knowing the bozos are replying, but effectively skipping them,
actually makes me want to carry on using the bozo bin, 'cos it does
work against those who I really don't want to read .. I might just add
a couple of others into it now thobut .. no names, no pack-drill ..

And for those bozos who morph regularly, it's now a single-click to
have away with you ..

What it definitely can't do, and here's the _ON-TOPIC_ bit, is help the
nettle rash from this mornings ride and the left forearm bramble cuts
...

[1] I say seeing, what I mean is the articles aren't downloaded, just
headers and a coloured subject with the article already marked 'read'
so 'next' skips to the next unread article in the thread or next thread.

I have five trolls in my KF which cuts out a hell of a lot of rubbish,
especially at a weekend when the trolls seem to be so bereft of a real
social life, that they choose to spend their time glued to a computer
screen waiting for some reply to their post which never arrives.

Still, it is their own time they are wasting.

If replies to those you have killfiled have properly quoted/attributed
the post they're replying to then you can just check for that e.g.
message matchcase "Rob Morley" | message matchcase "
mark_as_read stop
in the reader I use will catch the offending string in the header or
body of any post.

I don't really believe in using kill files, however, I have chucked Ed
Dolan and the Tibetan thingy (and their socks) into one.

Ditto for that gentleman and a (very) few others. Even when it comes to
threads I know I will never read, I prefer to retain the ability to have an
overall "feel" for a newsgroup.

I don't bother with them as they post so few posts anyway.
My killfile just deals with JMS and its many headed clones, Cheerless,
Medjob, Nuxx and Nugent.

Nuxxy has not been here for ages, I think he is ****ting himself over
the stuff he posted about Guy. Cheerless is not too bad as he does not
post so excessively to need filtering out, although the crap he has
posted will possibly mean that he gets buggered and eats porridge for a
few months at some time in the future. Medjob is simply weird. The only
way to deal with the repetitive deluded postings of a drunk is to filter
them out. Nugent is OK if you just ignore him. All he wants is an argument.

J... well...
