campy freehub body... replace with shimano compatible?
I have a campy record 10 speed wheels/hubs. On special occassions I
would like to replace the freehub body with a shimano compatible 9 speed freehub body so I can use an 11/34 mountain bike cassette for hill climbing events. I have been replacing the entire wheel... but that requires borrowing a wheel from a friend. I'm hoping I can just remove the freehub and replace it with another. thanks charlieb in ct. |

Peter
thanks... my hub is a 10 speed.. so it has to be fairly new. I did see a shimano compatible freehub but it said for 8 speed... I'm assuming they make a 9 speed one as well? thanks charlie ps-- at $125 would I be ahead to get an open pro rim and build another wheel? BRBR Yes, Campagnolo makes a shimano compatible freehub body that will just slide on, if your rear Campagnolo hub is the one with an aluminum axle, from 1998 or later. About $125. Since you have Campy Record 10 rear hub (current one with oversized
axle), why not TRY your current wheelset by putting on Campy 10 spd cogs on your Campy rear hub and see if it will work with your shimano 10 shifters. Should work. If it does, you save yourself at least $125. If not, then spend the money. Of course, if you just want to build up another rear wheel, then do it! |

I have a different situation... it is currently all campy record 10 .... but I want to use an 11-34 rear cassette for some hill climb races. Campy's max is a 13-29 cassette .. so I want to put a shimano MTB 11-34 cassette on the stock campy setup, hence the reason for asking about a shimano compatible freehub body . charlieb in ct |
