QUOTE:
Sam Rowley fatally smashed into a car at 40mph after failing to notice a
junction during the Classic Oxfordshire Sportive last year.

The 33-year-old crashed his bike at the bottom of Blowing Stone Hill
near Wantage on May 8, as he crossed the B4056.

Oxford Coroner’s Court heard how analyst consultant Mr Rowley, of Putney
in London, failed notice a give way sign because it was covered with
overgrown shrubs.

"failing to notice"...

"failed [to] notice a give way sign because it was covered with
overgrown shrubs.

Just *imagine* the howls of indignant hatred if a driver hit a cyclist
at 40mph because he (the driver) had failed to notice a give way sign
which was obscured by untrimmed vegetation.

Yet many signs are at least partly hidden by shrubs, etc. I wonder
whether it's valid defence?

I think they must mean the B4507, a serious error in the report.

There are multiple give way signs, hazard warning lines, give way lines
and an obvious crossroads, google even shows some lycra clad TDF
wannabes in the street view.

This would not have happened if the car was not there.
Banning cars would reduce this type of 'accident' to zero.

cyclists ride into all sorts of things, they don't need cars to kill
themselves against, trees, lamp-posts, walls, trains, rivers, ravines,
other cyclists, etc. etc.

The phrase "Hook, line, sinker, rod, and copy of Angling Times'" comes to mind.

Why do you keep bringing your favourite Teddy Bear into the discussion?
Is Silly Billy telling you what to type?
