Mountain bikers make good conservationists

The Salmon Idaho Mountain Bike Association (SIMBA) is a local club that promotes multi-use trail recreation throughout Idaho. With the drive to protect the Boulder-White Clouds from mining and other landscape alterations, SIMBA supports the movement for "monument" designation.
Many mountain bike enthusiasts enjoy the backcountry opportunities that the Boulder-White Clouds provide. Being able to bike to alpine lakes with fishing gear is a unique opportunity. Keeping mountain biking open in this area helps promote non-motorized recreation and creates support for the "monument" drive. Mountain bikers are some of the best conservationists in the nation. We enjoy and understand the need for pristine places.
Thank you for all the hard work to push for "monument" designation in the Boulder-White Clouds.

The push for a Monument has nothing to do with preventing mining - there is zero chance of any mining activity there due to existing laws and regulations. Its all about changing the definition of Wilderness and making money from it. The speed at which many (most?) bikers tear downhill is incompatible with the peace and quiet we all hope to experience. Totally selfish to bike in alpine zones. And mountain bikes don't "promote" anything except more bikes and more industrial tourism.
