Default Rider of the Year 2003 - Most Promising Rider - Most Disapointing Rider

Sure, he's most improved, was very consistent, yada, yada.

His accomplishments still don't match those of the other three. No Grand

Tour
wins, No World Cup wins, no feats that haven't been done for 30 years.

He is the best this year at: what?

One day racing? No.
Stage racing? No.
Sprinting? No.
Most UCI points? No.
Wins all the big races? No.
Wins some Classics? No.

Most consistent? Could be. Him or Bettini.

Sorry, doesn't cut it.

I think he is most consistent over Bettini because he achieved his over
stage racing and single day events (plus I was thinking he won a WC event

in
the spring, am I wrong?)

Let's say he's most consistent. That's the only thing he was the best at.
That's not rider of the year, IMO. The rider of the year should have done
something a little extraordinary.

Petacchi, Bettini, PvP.

Can we just sit back a minute and appreciate the fact that we have to argue
about rider of the year.

How about arguing the Ride of the Year?

I think Heras' mountain time trial in the Vuelta is a pretty good candidate.
