So why didn't he attempt it there? Second, was Boardman even in his prime when he did it? He wasn't far from it in 1996 when he rode the superman bike. He had A LOT of cred to lose if he hadn't beaten Merckx's record on equivalent bikes and IIRC it was pretty much the focal point of his season. It was his swan song. Third, Armstrong could probably add 3 km to Merckx's record on the same bike. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Carl, Lance doesn't care about the hour record. You might have noticed he blew off the Olympics and worlds too. What would Lance get if he set the hour record. A trophy? He doesn'ta carea ata alla. Magilla LANCE caring about the hour record, I agree completely. The rest is just talking out your ass. |

Why didn't he go this year if he cared so much about it? Lance is like the NBA Dream Team - it's all about the money now. Winning the Olympics doesn't mean jack. Lance knows that. In many ways, winning a gold medal at the Games is more superficial than taking a $250k appearance fee to race Tour de Georgia. Magilla |

Altitude giveth and taketh away. Less air to push, less to breathe, too. Citation on the 1km? Are you saying that Mexico City's air is *not* polluted? That polluted air doesn't affect breathing? Or just find a good place to get grumpy? snip It is accepted knowledge that the decrease in air density yeilds a greater advantage than the decrease in oxygen concentration at altitude ranges such as Mexico City. It is incorrect to say that there is a decrease in oxygen concentration at alititude. The concentration of oxygen in the air is relatively static, whether at sea level or at the top of Mount Everest. It is just that there is much less "air" to breath..... |

Winning the Olympics doesn't mean jack. Lance knows that. In many ways, winning a gold medal at the Games is more superficial than taking a $250k appearance fee to race Tour de Georgia. Maybe so, until Lance wins an Olympic event. Then, it would be very big, at least in the USA (if not in $$$ r'cd), a lot bigger than a US domestic event. Pictures on Wheaties boxes, other junk Media USA exposure. --TP |
