2010 Road Find Thread
Personally I had a very un-outstanding year when it came to finding
things. One extraordinarily ordinary day, though. I have always understood why there are always loose tools on the road, and even loose change. But I've never been so sure just why I'm always finding stray towels and tableware. My find of the year: all four, in one ride. A 7/16" inch crescent, a quarter, a small towel (they're always the small ones), and a spoon. The only thing that would have made the Grand Slam more perfect would have been if it had been the proverbial "fork in the road." One thing that puzzled me was finding table knives and teaspoons, but never, never forks. Once I stopped to pick up an open pocket knife that had been run over, thinking that the next person to run over it would lose a tire -- to my surprise, it was still in operating condition and I used it until I mislaid it. Haven't found anything interesting since moving into town. -- Joy Beeson joy beeson at comcast dot net |

If you happened to mislay it in the road, it's saga may still be continuing. - Frank Krygowski |

Narrow two-lane road, lots of traffic, and I was controlling the lane riding west on a 30 mph downhill, when I saw something in the road. "Was that a cell phone? Or maybe an iPod?" I pulled over at the first opportunity, about 200 yards, and waited for traffic to clear, then began riding back east, uphill. Sure enough, it looked like a perfect iPod lying screen up, dead center in the westbound lane, plus some other stuff. Again, too much traffic both ways. I rode about 100 feet past it and pulled into a drive on the left and waited for traffic to clear. After about 30 seconds, I had enough gap to head back downhill. In that amount of time, someone had run it over, despite it being dead center in the lane. Its touch screen was smashed. I picked it up anyway (and still intend to dissect it, just for fun). But what a near miss! Anyway, next to the iPod was a Nintendo DSi, in perfect working condition except for one button that was abraded and stuck as a result of its fall. I repaired that easily. The DSi became a gift for my neice. Other than that, I found one really nice set of Vice Grips. - Frank Krygowski |

That goes also for Crescent Wrench but I doub't that the Crescent tool company minds the term to be in common use. It halps sales more than is immediately apparent. -- Jobst Brandt |
