... None of this answers the fundamental problem of the aging population and stagnant workforce. Europe was trying to offset this, and the negative birthrates, by bringing in guest workers and immigrants and attempting to continue to expand the economies. The only problem with that theory is that when you keep increasing the fiscal burden on companies beyond the advantages of where they are located they go to another country that will give them a better deal. Now you not only haven't gained anything, you've driven the jobs to developing nations Even worse - now they have more unemployed workers whose socialized benefits they now need to address with a slow economy. |

I am SO sick of people who support Bush because he stands his ground and speaks his mind! I don't want a president who stands firm when he's WRONG! I want a president with balls enough to change direction when he realizes that he's heading the wrong way. Bush's pig-headedness is going to bankrupt the country and create an immeasurably more dangerous environment for all of us because he's antagonizing virtually everybody in the world. And before all you idiots start pulling out the "Liberals love Saddam" lines - forget it. There's not a single person around, liberal or not, who thinks Saddam was good for the world. He wasn't. He was a heinous SOB. But since when is it the America's responsibility to take out every dictator we don't like at the moment? Is it worth setting us on the path to the biggest Holy War ever? If Bush is elected again, America and its citizens are going to regret it for decades to come. On Fri, 15 Oct 2004 13:10:52 +0000 (UTC), Didier A. Nor is he willing to hold anyone else responsible for anything. It is a damning combination. John Kerry may flip-flop, but at least he realizes that circumstances change and sometimes require changed policies. He doesn't cowardly flee at the first mention of accountability." You would think that bicycle riders would be pretty strong individualists - after all, I can't go on a ride without the first AH I see trying to race me somewhere. You'd think that Democrats would want to work together, but instead it's all "I'm better than you because I could climb this hill faster than you." Hell, that's a Republican line ain't it? There are lots of people who don't have their identity mixed up with a political party. I understand why you guys believe Democrats are anti-individualistic. Read Ayn Rand. It's all that. What I don't get is why you believe Republicans are pro-individualistic. They push socialism too (albeit at a lower pace than democrats) because they have to serve some of that up to get elected. When they say they will get government off the people's backs, though, it's just noise. If there's an individual that wants to do stem cell research - we better stop them. Abortion - better stop them. If there's an individual that's kind of scary but we don't have evidence against them - arrest them. HEY! There's a naked statue! Throw a sheet over it! Some years I think Republicans ARE better at promoting individualism than Democrats. Their have been years that God himself could have been on the ballot as a Democrat and I'd have voted against him. I bought that in 1984 and 1988. This year, though, the Republicans look worse about all that to me than the Republicans do. -- -------------------- Remove CLOTHES to reply |

Presidents just don't have that much control over the economy. That's a good thing, actually.
