All people in the western hemisphere are Americans.

So by that logic someone from Deptford is an American, someone from
Woolwich is not, and someone from Greenwich might be American or might
not be depending on what side of Greenwich they come from.

No wonder the Americans haven't a clue where they are or where
anything else is.

Clue:

Iraq is not some island just off the Florida Coast
Afghanistan is not some island near Iraq
All people in the western hemisphere are not Americans

It's amusing, but kind of poor form to link to an article that shows
one a fool by its second sentence.

Kazimierz Pulaski was Polish military commander who fought in
unsuccessful Polish uprising against Russia and later emigrated
to United States where he became General in American army during
Revolutionary War. He is organized first American cavalry units.
Another famous Polish general that took part in Revolutionary
War was Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Both of these men are well known
and celebrated as national heroes in Poland. Both of them lived
according to motto seen on Polish military banners "For our
freedom and yours". A lot of Polish soldiers in exile (after
Poland lost independence in 1795) fought and died for that
idea. Unfortunately some of them found themselves on the wrong
side of the issue - like eg. Polish Legions sent by France to
Haiti in 1802 to fight Haitian Revolution.

I and millionsof Americans agree. Obama does not represent America so
please don't let his actions reflect on real Americans. * He is likely
not even a natural born citizen and not qualified to hold office.

you have an irrational and myopic view of the USA's place in the
world. Bigger isn't better. Might is not right.
I think you'll find we lost more men (proportionally) * than anyone

Mr Obama is a politician, not the 2nd coming.

More than 1 in 8 Soviet citizens died in WW2. I doubt the same level of
death (not to mention destruction of civilian infrastructure) occurred
in New Zealand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WW2_casualties

Actually you are both wrong - from the Wiki link that you quoted:
Poland
1939 population: 34,849,000
Total death (civilian - incl. Jews and military) 5,600,000
Percentage: 16.07%

Soviet Union:
1939 population: 168,500,000
Total death (civilian - incl. Jews and military) 23,100,000
Percentage: 13.71%

New Zealand:
1939 population: 1,629,000
Total death (only military) 11,900
Percentage: 0.67%

United States:
1939 population: 131,028,000
Total death (mostly military) 418,500
Percentage: 0.32%

This proves four things, none of them the things you want to prove:

1. Mothers matter. American mothers wanted to have their sons back
alive and whole from the war. Mostly they did. Politicians knew it and
conducted the war accordingly. It is no accident that Eisenhower, well
known on Capitol Hill after his many years of being the Pentagon
spokesman on the Hill, was appointed commander in chief. He was
perhaps the most political soldier who ever lived, long, long before
he was a politician.

2. New Zealanders are gallant in dying for king and country. Like
Australians, they make a big thing about courage, about dying well. As
one of my literary protege, who spent several years working for GMH in
Australia, wrote, "They reject the notion that the thing is not to die
at all."

3. American generals have a talent for substituting planning, machines
and materiel for lives. In modern warfare nothing beats cubic money,
cubic machines, cubic supplies. At the outbreak of WW2, only two men
understood why it would not be a war like WW1. They were Guderian and
Patton (Eisenhower got his understanding of tanks from Patton). I know
which commander I'd rather fight under, a American more interested in
guaranteeing the safety of his supply line than advancing x miles per
day, or some gungho johnny who forges ahead regardless. Nothing, short
of being dead, kills your ability to fight faster than running out of
ammunition, food, water, fuel, medicines and so on.

4. Russia's leaders have always been heartless. Russian commanders
cleared minefields with the cheapest commodity they had, the bodies of
their common soldiery -- they would march whole battalions through
minefieds with the tanks following. If the infantry tried to turn
back, the tanks would shoot them. Quite a few million of the missing
23 million Russians were killed by their own government.

So, I would say that a high casualty rate is hardly a guarantee of
valour, or patriotism, or good generalship, or a general state of
decent civilization back home. Quite the contrary. Anyone who brags
about how many of his ancestors or countrymen died bravely is a fool,
and most likely has never been in a war.
