Brilliant. Paint an ASL in the road but leave a lamp post in the killing
zone.

I agree, don't overtake the first vehicle in a queue (ASL or not, left or
right) unless you can be sure it is going to stay there for some time.

Drivers just do not realise how stupid cyclists can be.

Then we see the source of the real stupidity. Interesting how many reports
of left turn victims seem to be about women. If there is a pattern, what
are men doing differently?

They probably cut the corner across the pavement, scattering women, children
and the elderly, and threatening those who don't move out of the way quick
enough.

Can you quote the part of that report which states the cyclist was
undertaking or had undertaken the truck?

Failing that, can you quote the part of that report which suggests the
cyclist was undertaking or had undertaken the truck?

Yes:
"The driver was in the cycle box so we couldn't get in front" therefore the
cyclists came up the inside.

That suggests nothing of the sort.

It suggests this:
The cyclists were in the cycle box when the truck pulled alongside by
going into the cycle box. The cyclists could not get ahead of the
truck because that would mean going leaving the cycle box.

Oh dear :

"If Miss Fernandez was five metres ahead in the cycling box Mr Grant would
have seen her."

But she couldn't be five metres ahead because the truck was there. If
the truck was there she hadn't undertaken. If she had undertaken she
would have been ahead.

Perhaps she was in the process of undertaking the truck, makes no difference
who was where first, if you have a truck on your right shoulder and still
proceed across a junction where he may turn left, you're an idiot.

When all is said and done, if you're stopped at lights with a left-turn on a
bike and a truck pulls up to your right, the sensible thing to do would be
to wait until the truck pulls well clear, watch it either turn left or go
straight on, and only *then* pull away yourself. Forget all the nonsense
about stop lines and green boxes, they're only there to make you feel more
important and give you the illusion that you're going to get somewhere
quicker. It's amazing how self-important cyclists have such disregard for
their own safety and would rather cut 3.2 seconds off their journey than
apply some common sense.

Would you cycle on the road up the inside of a truck across a junction where
he may turn left? I wouldn't, I'd wait until the truck had passed, nobody in
their right mind would straddle themselves across a left-turn with an HGV on
their right shoulder. It's suicidal. If you're waiting at the lights and the
truck pulls alongside to your right, then just wait for it to bugger off, he
can't squash you if you stay still until he passes. The world won't end if
you're a few seconds late, but it will (for you) if you're a stupid ****.

An inquest heard how Argentinian-born Miss Fernandez, a PR student at the
London College of Communication who lived in Stepney Green, was cycling with Mr
Rispoli when they rode up beside the lorry.

Get that : "when they rode up beside the lorry"

You really should stop getting your cycling news from cycling web sites: use
news sources like everyone else. It's most odd how that bit was missing from
the report you quote.

Or did you mean " If she had undertaken she would have been dead" - which is of
course what happened..

A reasonable inference if - and only if - the lorry was a regular RHD
model for use on British roads.

Did you see this bit?

QUOTE
Deputy coroner Gail Elliman said: “The lorry wasn't stopped in the right
place. If Miss Fernandez was five metres ahead in the cycling box Mr
Grant would have seen her. But the [lorry's] indicator could have been
seen by Miss Fernandez. Caution might have been exercised if she
believed it was going to turn left.”
ENDQUOTE

"left"...

And there's this from someone who was the

QUOTE:
Riccardo Rispoli ... was cycling with her at the time of the crash in
June...

Speaking after the verdict, Mr Rispoli, a yacht designer, said: ... “I
do not blame the driver...".

Of course, he has the disadvantage of actually having been there.

So a different report, then. And no undertaking, perhaps a partial
undertake.

A report in a "newspaper" not in a cycling web page.

It looks like the web page author was economical with the truth as they even
referenced the standard web page from which they had selectively copied the
report.

Odd that - how they missed out the bit of her stupidly riding up the side of
the lorry.

Yes, well, he has this strange and partial appetite. As we speak he's probably digging up some dead cyclist who ****ed up in Rarotonga or Sverdlovsk.

He's totally disinterr-ested, of course.
