May be, look out for a yellow kiddyback tandem and a huffing red head,
Thomas (7) on his Trek and Ros on a Dawes. I think it will be the shortest route. Weather looks to be warm and dry. Ferry and bike, nice day out... Kind regards, Daren --- remove outer garment for reply |

Bad luck, it's anticlockwise this year. Just got back. 3:30 from Cowes. Bit misty on the south side, but an excellent ride. |

If any of you were delayed by a couple of ambulances parked on the
bridge at Yarbridge around lunchtime... that was because of us, I'm afraid. My friend had an encounter with a traffic calming measure on the bridge, flipped over the railing and ended up at the bottom of a 20-foot embankment with a fractured femur. It took six of us (the three paramedics and three cyclists) to lift him up the bank. Apart from the fracture he was remarkably unharmed - unless you count more nettle stings than you can shake a stick at. Once we'd seen him off to A&E and sorted out storage of his bike, there wasn't much useful we could do, and we had to get back to Yarmouth somehow, so we finished the route. In other circumstances it would have been a beautiful afternoon's ride! Did anyone else see the low-lying fog bank over the sea near Niton in the morning? Fantastic - it was as if we were cycling above the clouds. |

I live on the corner by the traffic lights, if I'd have known of the accident, I'd have gladly looked after the bike for you. - we were watching the Tour of Romandie on TV so were oblivious of the world outside. . orthisco.orthisuktyped My friend had an encounter with a traffic calming measure on the bridge, flipped over the railing and ended up at the bottom of a 20-foot embankment with a fractured femur. What sort of traffic calming measure is this? Sounds lethally dangerous to me! I am apalled that you friend has suffered this fate, though I appreciate his injuries might have been much worse. Is there any chance of applying political pressure to remove this man trap? I'd hate to hear of another similar accident! -- Helen D. Vecht: Edgware. |

Not that I'm suggesting the guy might have been cycling 'furiously' or anything... |

It seems to me that 'traffic calming' that leads to crashes and serious injuries needs to be rethought! -- (Simon Brooke) http://www.jasmine.org.uk/~simon/ ;; "If I were a Microsoft Public Relations person, I would probably ;; be sobbing on a desk right now" -- Rob Miller, editor, /. |

It seems to me that 'traffic calming' that leads to crashes and serious injuries needs to be rethought! The road has a couple of narrow humpy bridges that can't take weight ,so its single file over them. The council in their wisdom have placed black and white striped pillar type bollards set each side of the road on a raised area with a kerb. Right of way is given to traffic coming from Yarbridge towards Yaverland. I probably didn't explain that very well !!! Jan |
