Apparently HS2 will cost tax payers £4 Billion per year.
At the moment motorway maintenance costs tax payers £10 Billion per year of which £6 Billion is paid for by motorway users.
What's the difference apart from the fact that tax payers have been subsidising motorways for decades.

One difference is that the £10b covers the whole motorway network.
