Default London is a great cycling city

QUOTE:
"Have you ever imagined a commute into work where you are not frustrated by
late-running Tubes or buses, where you arrive feeling more awake and
energised than before? Have you ever thought about getting off the Tube and
onto a bike? I know, I was a sceptic when the Boris bikes appeared. I mean,
is London really a cycle city?

Over the years I have found myself using my car more and more, having to
drive from studio to studio. But recently I have been approached by the
Kensington and Chelsea council to be a Bike Hero - an ambassador for cycling
around London. Since then, I have changed my ways and got out of the car and
onto the saddle.

The first week I thought I had found the safest way to get around London
with a bike, by keeping it in the back of my car and looking at it every so
often. Then the guilt became too much and at six o'clock on an overcast
Tuesday morning I plucked up my courage, strapped on my new helmet and
cycled into work.

It was absolutely exhilarating! I loved cutting out all the traffic jams and
allowing my competitive streak free rein by racing every other cyclist on
the road - without them knowing, of course.

So I believe that only once you give it a go will you truly understand how
perfect London is for cycling. And if it comes down to the choice between
the congestion charge and parking tickets and the need to keep an eye out
for the occasional disgruntled taxi or bus driver, the choice is simple.
Goodbye Fiat, hello Moulton TSR 9. I'm never going back.

wearing a helmet?

Why? Why not?

It's not a legal requirement, so it's a personal choice.

Do you wear a seat-belt when driving? If so why? If not why not?

I am confident that the answer to that is "Yes" (and it certainly is for me).

If so why?

Because it's a legal requirement. That would do, even if there were no other
reasons.

If not why not?

You're starting to realise that you asked the wrong question, aren't you? ;-)

My personal choice is never to wear a helmet.
Ever.

Oh dear. Despite your recent admission that you wear one when it is required
in organised events.

The teachings of the Porker are paying off.

Simple Simon Mason - who cycles at 25mph in 20mph limits just because the limits do not apply to cyclists.
This includes exceeding the speed limit past three schools. A total disregard for the well-being of vulnerable road users.
The actions of a true psycholist.

Which is why many cyclists don't wear helmets.

If not why not?

No. But then, I commute across London by bike :-)

If it is compulsory then he has no choice to make, so his statement
doesn't apply in those cases. If he has a choice he will not wear a helmet.
