What ho, gentlefolks. I am moving my website content form Lotus
Domino, which I used because I was a Domino developer, to Mediawiki software, to make it easier to update. I have a couple of technical issues with Mediawiki but the most pressing problem I have now is this: For pages which are not yet ported from the old site, which is most of them, should I do this: http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/wiki/Advocacy or this: http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/wiki/CageGlass See the difference? One is a template saying look here for the old content, the other is a search page. I can't make up my mind, and I'm trying to make some new content as I do the work, as well as updating things, so it will not be a five minute job. The "not done yet" list is likely to be quite long for a while. Alternatively, should I simply leave the old site online until I've done it all? Thanks for any suggestions, Guy -- May contain traces of irony. Contents liable to settle after posting. http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk 85% of helmet statistics are made up, 69% of them at CHS, Puget Sound |

You're using Apache, so that's straightforward enough, even on windoze. -- not me guv |

If you can generate a list of the WikiNames from the old site with a Bit of Perl, you could shove the definitions into an easily-managable ..htaccess or Include file and throw 302 Found responses back at the user for just a specific, listed set of pages. Home and the rest of the buttons on the old site should probably direct the user to the equivalent page on the new :80 site. If Domino can't be made to do that, and/or it generates redirects in terms of itself, Nick's reverse proxy idea is probably better. ProxyPassReverse is your friend. If you do the reverse-proxy trick, you can hide the old server on an RFC1918 URI. For ease of maintenance, I still suggest maintaining the list as a single, separate text file using Include. -- Andrew Chadwick |
