Default Continued epic inflation

I went out for a club run this morning; a nice gentle spin over
Laurieston Moor and down to Gatehouse for hot chocolate and a scone at
Cream of Galloway, and then back via Borgue, Kirkcudbright and Gelston.
Very pleasant, good company, lots of chatting and enjoying the scenery.
And then when I got back I went out for another little spin with my
partner, nothing very energetic. A pleasant Sunday's ride.

Total, just over 100Km, and probably four hundred metres of climb.

And the thing about that is, a year ago Jon and I did an Audax together -
a total 114Km. And for me, that was an epic. It took seven hours. I was
very proud of my achievement. I wrote a long ride report, and posted it
both here and on my blog. And in preparation for that I had ridden a
fifty mile ride by myself, and _that_ had felt like an epic.

So - those of you who are just setting out on your first epics - enjoy
them. As you get fitter, it will take more and more effort to achieve
that high - that sense of personal achievement - again. My current
distance target - the next one which will give me any real sense that
I've pushed my limits out - is 300Km, and that is a bloody long ride.
And when I achieve that, it will take an even bigger push to achieve the
next one, and so on...

Epics are like addictive drugs. At first you get high on just a little
bit, and that can't possibly do you any harm, can it?

Was that hot chocolate made with milk or water ?
I always feel spewy if riding after consuming milk, but not cream for
some reason...
