There is no counter-argument.

My Dad likes horse racing, I like playing Golf.
There, in all it's glory, is your counter argument.
Just because you don't like something does not make it pointless.
Stop trying to run other people's lives.

Oh, it's definitely pointless. Though whether a pointless thing is
boring or interesting is a matter for the individual. (I think sport is
boring btw.)

The point is to enjoy yourself.
How can doing something you enjoy be pointless?

I don't think there has to be a connection.

Life is pointless, you will die at the end of it so why bother living?

My point in life is to be happy even though the whole thing is pointless.

I know there are some 'people' here whose whole purpose in life is to search the internet for stories about misbehaving cyclists, but they are not happy people and we should pity them.

The idea put about by religion is that life has to be endured to earn a
place in heaven.

Of course. So pointless things can be interesting. (Or what is
interesting to you can be boring to others. Golf comes to mind.)

When you say 'religion' I think you mean 'The leaders of the Roman Empire'.

If you don't like Golf, don't play Golf. Problem solved.

I don't, obviously, but don't forget the subject concerns whether or not
something that can be enjoyed is pointless.

I know there are some 'people' here whose whole purpose in life
is to search the internet for stories about misbehaving
cyclists, but they are not happy people and we should pity them.

Yes.
