Blowing your nose
I've noticed several cyclists this weekend ejecting mucus from their noses
by pressing one side of the nose and blowing hard into the open air which I find revolting.. This is of particular concern to me as I seem to be behind them at the time (yes I know I should ride faster). One cyclist wasn't even riding . I would no more do this while cycling than I would anywhere else I have no difficulty in fishing a handkerchief from my back pocket and using it while on the move. After all it's not as if they're professionals in the Peloton. Ken. |

Blowing your nose

Perhaps you saw me last night! Apart from being very inconvenient to use frequently while cycling, one hankercheif can only take so much! Unfortunately some of us generate so much nasal output that we'd have to carry around thirty hankies. I agree it looks revolting but it has to be done if one has a continually runny nose. I try and "blow snot" when no-one else is looking - especially when no pedestrians are around, and as it's mostly watery stuff, really, there's hardly a health hazzard. ~PB Maybe it's time you got a helmet mounted mirror or one of those "Reevu" helmets so you can make sure there's noone behind you! The thought of being hit by one of those is very nasty indeed. 8-( |

On my 120k club ride this morning I'm sure I shed a few hundred grams of the nasty stuff. If the suns behind you it makes a great picture as you look over your shoulder and see it beautifully backlit! In our small group (8-15) we have an unwritten rule that you pull in close to the kerb before 'unloading', it's very rare that anyone gets a backfire...but it does happen occasionally :-) I'm not apologising for my behaviour, I could do a lot worse, trust me! -- Mark (MSA) Bike shop assistant... I am very guilty of this but I don't personally consider myself to be a health hazard 'cos the snot always ends up landing on my left shoulder. After all it's not as if they're professionals in the Peloton. Ken. I suggested renaming our group "The Snot-Dodgers". No one took the hint. They still do it, without checking behind or allowing for the wind. I don't ride with that group now. Too sticky. -- Martin Bulmer Pie Conservation Threat |

When seagulls and pigeons splat on you, it is said to bring one luck. Any thoughts on being on the receiving end of a fellow cyclist? (lol) I would say it is unfortunate! |

Blowing your nose
I have no difficulty in fishing a handkerchief from my back pocket and using it while on the move. After all it's not as if they're professionals in the Peloton. I'd need a hanky the size of a spinnaker to soak up my nasal discharge. I've contemplated adapting a Camelback to store aforementioned goo and recycle it as a moisture retentive potting compost additive. How's that for greenness? :-) In all seriousness, the gripe is a petty one. Why not practice the technique and try to get a clear shot with no remnants sticking to your cycling shirt. I was immensely proud the first time I achieved a snot free top. |
