We all like to pretend we're executives, and that it's important we're natty and
coiffed at all times. You never know when Wall St. will call for a
teleconference...

What would life be if we did not pretend we were more important than
we really are. The phone is ringing......it must be Wall Street. I
have a friend who has a seat on the exchange and I would not want to
be that guy for all the money in the world. He is well on his way to a
nervous breakdown. I don't want to be a slug as far as work.....but
play has become very important in my older years.......where once it
was MONEY MONEY MONEY. My Wall Street buddy is obsessed with how many
cars, designer suits, monte blancs and rolex's he can buy. When I
visit him in a mental ward one day....I will see what his Rolex can do
for him. He should chill out and BIKE!!!!! Maybe I will invite him to
ride with me....LIKE THAT WILL HAPPEN. Lord Anderson don't ride no
bicycle. He drives a Jag. His loss right?

I see the assimilation is coming along on schedule. You are starting to
sound like a cyclist! Soon, there will be no turning back....

Well, I'm having the time of my life with my humble,
construction labourer job. I get to ride to work in
my work clothes, I don't have to answer telephones and
deal with clients' catastrophies, I get to play in the
dirt, breathe outdoors air, get plenty of exercise,
sometimes tear stuff down, and sometimes build stuff.
The only really important thing I do is maintain clean,
tidy & safe work settings for construction workers and
tradespeople -- who are for the most part really great
folks to work with. Salt of the earth. The job really
fits in with my cycling-oriented lifestyle. Or is it
my lifestyle-oriented cycling ...

Anyhow, it seems the more I ride, the more integrated
riding becomes in my life-in-general. Weird, eh?

Oh -- and another perk I enjoy is that I get to 'commute'
to a variety of sites around town, so I'm not stuck with
pounding the same old route day after day.

I hope I can be forgiven for crowing too much about my
good fortune. But I've found so much fulfillment in
being 'unimportant'.

cheers,
Tom

damn, i'd kill for that. as it is we just got booted out of our office
(for remodeling) to a site 10 miles further away ..

... that'd have made a nice commute. but tptb (powers that be) decided to
use our consulting offices instead.

... & those are next door to my apartment.

crap. for the next 6 weeks my commute is 100 feet. i'm gonna get fat.

Maybe you could check the original office for mail every
morning, and bring any you find back to the pro tem office?

cheers,
Tom

Tom, now that you have a full time job have you gone
out and bought some decent clothes? Don't try and tell
me that it doesn't bother you when elite riders like me call
you 'Kmart'.

And one other issue, not that I agree with it or think it's
a good thing, but, people judge you by what kind of
car you own/lease.

That's just the way it is these days.

I got me a jim-dandy pair of Snap-On[tm] STWBs. "Tools
For Your Feet". They came with a complementary key chain;
the fob is a cute little boot sole.

Call me anything you like. Just stay outa my parking spots.

I neither own nor lease a car at all. I guess I have
to go unjudged.

cheers,

I'd go with the second.

To some, it might sound dirty. :-)
