Default Boy, 10, dies and another fights for life after Anlaby Road crash -driver held in custody

Driver arrested and held in custody after the death of a child.
QUOTE:
A 10-year-old boy has died after he collided with a car on Anlaby Road.

He was riding a bike when the crash happened close to the junction with Selby Street on Monday evening.

The boy was riding alongside his friend who was also hit - and he is being treated in hospital for his "life threatening" injuries.

The road had to be closed for several hours after the incident at 6.10pm which led to both boys being rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary nearby.

However, one of the victims died a short time later, Humberside Police have confirmed.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the collision and he remains in police custody.

Police were once again pictured at the scene on Tuesday morning as the force confirmed their serious collisions unit is investigating.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the force confirmed the sad news.

"A 10-year-old boy has sadly died following a collision on Anlaby Road in Hull yesterday evening, Monday 19 October," she said.

"The collision happened shortly after 6pm when a blue BMW collided with two boys riding a bike (sic) on the flyover, near to the junction with Selby Street.

"Emergency services attended and the boys were taken to hospital for treatment to life threatening injuries.

"One of the boys sadly died a short time later. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The other boy remains in hospital in a critical condition.

"A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the collision, he remains in our custody whilst enquiries continue.

"Officers from our serious collisions unit are appealing for anyone that witnessed the collision, who has not already spoken to us, to please get in touch.

"They are also keen to hear from anyone that saw either vehicle prior to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage from driving in the area at the time."

Anyone with information or footage that may be able to assist the Humberside force is asked to call their non-emergency 101 number quoting log 488 of October 19.

Alternatively you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
