What the people suggesting this don't realise is that the rise in prices
is an international thing. If local refiners are subject to government
price controls or if people here actually stopped buying fuel for a
day/week, they could just export it instead. The high demand (especially
for refining capacity) along with issues like Katrina etc have driven the
world market price up because demand is greater than supply.

supply and demand is ******** in this case, it doesn't cost them any
more to make!?!?!

so why *should* the price rise? i mean really?

There would be no problem exporting anything refined locally and
being able to sell at world market rates. Do people think China (who's
skyrocketing growth and demand has contributed to the current situation)
are going to participate? Hell, they're just finding out the luxury of
being able to afford your own personal car. Just wait 5 years
until they all want to be two car families - and can you blame them for
wanting this, as stupid and unsustainable as it is? We've known it's not
sustainable for decades, but that hasn's stopped (most of) us.

is has just happened with steel in this country. the cost of steel has
tripled for some products. chinas demand for steel has gone through the
roof as major car production plants has taken off... now that australia
doesn't make (much) steel any more, cause its a dirty, dirty industry
the supply is going to be much more difficult to get sensible amounts in
a sensible time. the office buildings for Ratbag were delayed by more
than three months (for a number of reasons, but in part to) big delays
in the availability of structural steel.

where was i going with this ..?

hmmm, oh yeah, chinas consumption of steel... hoooj.

but its up here on floor 20, you ejitt!

i think this sad little attempt at populist activism is meant to make
the poor sad petrol-buyin gits feel like they have some control over
their dumb-arse situation, as long as it doesnt involve doing the
obvious

theres going to come a point in time where we get to say "we told you
so", but they won't appreciate it.

kim
~ who gets to say told you so at work a bit. they don't like it either.

Ummmm
You obviously suffer from sanity. I once ran a VF dry in 50 km on the
GOR. But I was young and sillyDunno how you could do that, you must've had a leak VF750 or

1000? Mine is a '93 VFR750 - some pics of it here http://pekanet.org

No it was the 500. Black, hot and ratty. I did it cos I was trying
to beat Ian on his GSX1000 and he kept grinding bits of his motorcycle
off and throwing them back at me

They aint all that ecconomical when ridden with the throttle wide open..
its just that normally you only do that for a few seconds
