Glad to be of service - I helped in the R+D for that plant, but the
BIG money spinner will be a maize to biobutanol plant.
Ethanol can only be used in small doses in conventional engines, but
butanol can be used neat.

Mexican VW engines will run on ethanol or petrol or a combination.

Indeed, but the majority of IC engines in much of the rest of the
world can't run on neat ethanol as it is too corrosive for a start.
Biobutanol is the way forward, it does absorb water when it is in
storage either..

It is opening soon,
I have been tapped up for a lab manager's job there as I know the head
gaffer there, but it does not pay as much as when I already get and
they don't have a share scheme or a free pension, so they can go and
whistle.

What's good about it? I thought you motorists here didn't believe in
global warming, or don't want to because you seriously pollute, more
like. Many of you also argue against the use of renewables, when it
suits you. Make up your minds.

The high starch content of the region's wheat makes it ideal for
bioethanol, the company said.

Farmer and National Farmers' Union representative Ian Backhouse said:
"To have a customer on our doorstep taking the volumes of wheat
they're talking about is really good news for local farmers."..."

"...Up to 5% of bioethanol can currently be blended with regular fuel
for use in any petrol-based car engine but this may increase to 10% to
meet renewable energy targets, according to the AA..."

It's pushed up the cost of green barley for which barley malt has
followed and helped push up the cost of our national staple food, beer.

Yes prices the starving millions can't afford.

But the wheat is not at present used for people.

If it wasn't fed to cars it would be used for people.

But more to the point, are you saying that the farmers are cyclists, or
the animals are cyclists, or the plant owners are cyclists, if none of
these then why post it to a cycling NG?

Because this newsgroup is infested by lots of motorists, some of whom
also pretend to be cyclists, and as motorists they pose a potential
threat to vulnerable cyclists.

Good for you, not to want to be associated with such crazy greenwash.

It was not to do with me being anti greenwash.
If they had waved enough cash in front of me I'd have gone.
And don't forget that I work for a huge oil company as it is - a trip
across the road would really have made me greener at a stroke.

Doug.

The starving millions in other coutries are largely a result of too much
health care resulting in too many children surviving. The only answer is
either stop the 'health' care, or stop them breeding. Get the numbers down
and they will be able to survive on the resources they actually have.

What's good about it?

It's a renewable energy source.

I thought you motorists here didn't believe in
global warming,

WTF has gw got to do with the above article?

or don't want to because you seriously pollute, more
like.

Nothing wrong with gw, it's the causes of it that I dispute.

Many of you also argue against the use of renewables, when it
suits you. Make up your minds.

When? where? I'd love to use renewable energy for everything, it simply
isn't possible yet.

Why do you always apply blanket arguments to specific replies? *It
simply doesn't work that way.

Plus it will bring hundreds of jobs into the local economy.
Shame about the congestion on the roads though - if Dr Beeching had
not had his way, the wheat could have all come via railcars.

Yes of course you have.

It will be the man-management skills which you have demonstrated here, your
ability to get on with other people, and your general common sense which will
have appealed to them.

Perhaps they do not know of your trait of lying to your current management :-)
