Alcohol meter - The Final Experiment
OK.
I am working from memory here, but I will post the photographic evidence later on when I get home. Last night I went in my sauna at 1800 and started drinking 3.8% bitter with added sea salt of course. At 1900, I had consumed four pints and then I checked my BAC (Breath Alcohol Concentration) and it was 0.04 gdm-3, the drink drive limit is 0.08. This ties in with when I was breathalysed in 1982 after drinking four pints of 3.5% bitter and I was well under the limit then. At 2000 I had drunk eight pints of bitter and now my reading was 0.08. So that is a linear measurement, but of course a lot of the alcohol had not turned up in my breath by then. At this point, (2000) I switched to 5.0% lager as I always do and by 2100 I had consumed twelve pints in total. At 2100, I had drunk enough and did not want anymore, so I went to bed. My final reading was 0.20, which is 2.5 times the drink drive limit. I awoke naturally at 0100 and checked my breath - it was 0.08 which is just on the DD limit. At 0200 it was 0.06 and at 0300 it was 0.04. By 0400 it was 0.03 and when I got up for work at 0505, it was reading 0.00. So I had metabolised around 24 units of alcohol in eight hours putting paid to the old one unit every 45 minutes theory. -- Simon Mason |

The 3.8% bitter contains 2 units per pint. 8 pints = 16 units. The 5% lager contains 3 units per pint so that's another 12 units. 28 units in total. More than the recommended weekly limit for a male. And he didn't feel drunk???! Someone has a problem. |

Strangely, one person he does seem to listen to is thirty-six who I think is a complete fruitcake. |
