Tom Kunich: How is it that whenever you are active on this board, Tom Sherman is not, and whenever he is, you are not.

You are both in your 60's, both from Oakland CA, and have similar signal-to-noise ratios.

What gives?

Tom Sherman is from West Consin, now living in Iowa. I
actually know him.

What are the chances of an aluminum lower race on a headset breaking when installed on fork that has previously had some sort of headset on it?

Nice spelling.

Yes, often when the aluminum bearing seat is slightly askew
while being pressed on.

Yes, especially when the aluminum bearing seat is slightly
askew while being pressed on.

I'm on the telephone all day. I hear that pronunciation from
the middle south and southeast.

Well, it's an FSA headset and since that lower "race" only is a support for a bearing it is sort of irritating that they would make something that small out of aluminum. Saving a couple of grams in weight and increasing the chances of it breaking is pretty silly.

You can end with "well its FSA" -- which stands for Failure Soon Ahead. A lot of manufacturers skip the crown race (bearing seat) and just mold it into the fork. https://tinyurl.com/y3ya9cj3

It's a seat, not an actual bearing. They work fine with a
crack (or a designed-in slit).
